Pope Benedict XVI addressed the world last April with these words: "In dialoguewith Christians of various churches, we need to commit ourselves to caring for thecreated world, without squandering its resources, and sharing them in a cooperativeway."
One year later, the Dubuque Catholic parishes’ Social Justice Committees are taking Pope Benedict’s message to heart by addressing the troubling issues of climate change, air pollution, and energy consumption in a prayer and practical presentation program, “Celebration of Creation: Growing Green.” The event will be presented twice at these locations: Resurrection Church on April 14 and St. Raphael’s Cathedral on April 22.“For several months, the Dubuque Social Justice Committees have been planning an inspiring evening of prayers of gratitude, music and sharing of sustainability ideas for people in the Dubuque area.We want to demonstrate our collective desire to follow the words of the church’s social teachings and the world’s religious leaders regarding creation stewardship as well as the challenge by our mayor and city council members to create a ‘green’ city,” said Judy Haley Giesen, one of the organizers of the event.
