What is Green Dubuque?
Green Dubuque is a
non-profit organization committed to improving and beautifying Dubuque by
reducing our city’s greenhouse gas emissions, promoting smart development and
urban green space, and protecting the health and integrity of local ecosystems.
We are working to unite local organizations and individuals who are
already doing so much to make our city a healthy and pleasant place to live.
We hope to provide resources for those who wish to stay informed about global
environmental issues as well as opportunities for responsible citizens to get
involved in local environmental and city improvement projects.
Why Was Green Dubuque Created?
Environmentally conscious Americans have long looked to the
federal government to pass legislation that protects the integrity of the
ecosystems and natural resources on which our health and future ultimately
depend. Progress has been made, but
as global climate change further stresses many ecosystems and resources that are
already under intense pressure, it is becoming clear that responsible citizens
have to take the future of their community into their own hands.
It’s been said before, but it bears repeating:
Think globally, act locally.
Framed by towering bluffs and the mighty Mississippi,
Dubuque has always been a beautiful place to call home.
We want to extend that legacy into the future by making our city a
national leader in energy efficiency, smart development, and sustainability.
We firmly believe that Dubuque can and will become a model city that the
other cities across the country will strive to emulate.
